Can I get a private post please.. do any of you ladies have toddlers who are going through a diagnosis for autism maybes give me some advice. My nearly 3 year old was referred by his health visitor when he turned 2 and since then has been involved with the paedrictian. He has a huge speach delay and has only recently been able to say a few words even then very rarely hear him say anything and he does not know the meaning of the words he can say apart from one or two. He also has alot of autism traits at home, e.g hand flapping (not as much now) strange hand movements in front of his eyes. Will sometime rock backs nd forth if sat down and spin round in circles. He does give eye contact but not for long and only responds to his name now and then. He has no imaginative play. He has an obsession with cars and doesn’t really play with anything else for longer than a few minutes. He has a short attention span and doesn’t focus on an activity at home. He likes to repeats sounds. He is funny with certain food textures in his mouth. He also won’t sleep in his bed he has slept on the floor for months. Has no fear of danger or the roads. Mega meltdowns and alot of aggression and has alot of anxiety around older women.. The list goes on I could sit and write loads. he goes to nursery and apparently they don’t think he is autistic as he has no traits at nursery but when he’s at home he does all of this and more but they make him sound like a completely different child. Now I know he does well at nursery and I am proud of him but I don’t get to see what he gets up to and what he does I just get told. Why does he go into nursery and behave differently to how he is at home and why hasn’t nobody noticed anything but the paedrictian and speech and language therapy have. I’m telling the paedrictian one thing and nursery are telling something completely different. Does anyone else have a toddler who is going through a diagnosis who acts different at nursery? Makes you feel like your doing something wrong at home and that you make it up or something
