Can I have a ppp!!

I’m in a 0 hour contract in a fast food restaurant! I have been there about 9 months our schedule goes up the Friday for the next again week and being a single parent it was okay as my mum could watch my child . But due to her new job she’s unable to know so i asked for day shifts offered to do dining area as they need day shifts but my manager just keeps refusing saying I need you on overnights . But without my mum are going to be impossible I have said I’ll do days and get him in school clubs but he’s just refusing completely . I have just had a interview and is looking up I’m just worried about asking him for a reference can they refuse ?

I’ve been there 9 months never missed a shift , been late and always agreed to do extra shifts would rather stay but with no shifts it wouldn’t work x
