Anon please. Sorry long one. Hi I’m looking for advice for parents that have gone through custody courts. My lovely 13 year old stepdaughter has chosen to live with us full time around 5 weeks ago. We had her half of the time and most school holidays anyway, but after yet another abusive attack by her alcoholic mother she finally jumped ship. Her mum has only bothered two see her twice in a month, one of those times pissed up at the pub. Step Daughter although encouraged by ourselves to see her mum has chosen not to as she is sick of being dragged around pubs for hours on end. So far plain sailing, daughter is settled in a routine, having regular baths, actually eating meals rather than a packet of pub crisps, at school on time and homework done. Etc the neglect and abuse goes much much deeper. My question is where do we go through here? I don’t want to rock the boat as everyone’s happy but we need to be first point of call for doctors, schools, Dentist. Even something so simple as getting her a school bus pass as we live miles away. “Mother” is not fighting yet as she is happy keeping all her benefits which I don’t care about, but we need it set it stone that we are her main carers. Will it be a lengthy court battle? Or is there a simpler way of going about it? X
