Asking advice for someone please!
They are going to the doctors first thing, but he is really struggling.
Basically he feels that he can’t talk in social situations & doesn’t feel the need to talk to people, he feels he needs a drink to be himself.
He works full time & doesn’t drink all the time, but feels he is better with a drink!
He is taking antidepressants, which he said doesn’t seem to be helping, he can be really passionate about things he does, and when he knows what he knows, he talks a lot.
But when he is out of his comfort zone he struggles, just goes into himself & stands there watching everyone have a conversation. He said that he feels like he has nothing to bring forward to the conversation & cant understand why people talk about their day, as why would anyone want to hear about his day! – his words, not mine.
1-1 he isn’t so bad, but group situations is a lot worse. He says he sits there & thinks about what he wants to say before he says it then in his head, wonders why anyone would want to know that and just stops himself. Last family party we went to he just drank and just sat listening. He has opened up to me tonight and asked me to help him, I’ve said we will go doctors together first thing, but wanted to see others opinions & how to help. Thanks. Sorry it’s a long one x

  • Get him to look into mindfulness. It can seem like utter nonsense to begin with, but with perseverance it can really help some people.
