Can I have a pp please?

Ok I think I just need advice or a wake up call 😕
I have been with my partner for a year and I know some people do not believe in this but it was love at first sight, I mean the while soul mates etc. After previous abusive relationships I couldn’t believe I had found “the one”.
Anyway fast forward to December and I found out he had cheated on me 😞 it was a one night stand. He denied it for long time before admitting it. It has broke my heart to shreds. He said he was scared of how good our relationship was as he had also never felt this way before. He said he was under so much stress from other factors and it was a dilly one off mistake which he is also heart broken about. We have broken up as i said it was the one thing that would destroy us… but now, we have started talking and he wants to take one day at a time to start again. I still love him like mad, but obviously still so hurt. I know they say once a cheater always a cheater but has anyone been through this before where it has worked and made them stronger as a couple. I just can’t stop wishing we were together and ok but I don’t know if I can get passed the pain?
Also the problem for me is all my family and friends will go crazy mad and put me through hell if I try again with him. TIA x
