Can I have a ppp

Ok so my son is three. We feel he maybe autistic we’re struggling with all sorts but the two problems I feel pressured about is his sleep and he’s still in nappies. We’re under a sleep clinic, which all being well give good advice but they’re there in theory not in practice. Anyway… our son’s speech is limited and so is his understanding. He knows what to do when he’s on the toilet (wee only) but doesn’t understand if you say do you want a wee and won’t initiate using the toilet himself. He was three at the beginning of this year? I feel he’s not mature enough as he isn’t getting the signal himself. Am I starting too early. I know every kids different but that’s basically what I’m asking. Any experiences with kids autistic or even none autistic that we’re still in nappies at 4? I feel we have enough struggles every day without adding toilet trips every 15 minutes and having to nag him because he doesn’t want to, to the list. Any good advice would be brill.

  • My son has autism he’s 8 now but was diagnosed at 2 n half. He started school in nappies n was out of them at the start of year 1! It can take longer for kids with Autism to recognise the signals. Also my son had a phobia of the toilet and sensory issues so didn’t like the feel of the potty or toilet seat.

We finally got there by using a pot of bubbles lol. We sat him on toilet n let him blow bubbles as directed by HV and it relaxes them enough to go to the toilet once they start to crack it a few times it becomes easier!

Il just add that my non autistic daughter was in nappies right up to the September before she started school! She cracked it on her own term 3 weeks before the start of school (she was one of the younger ones so just turned 4 when started school) X
