Hello all! For the last 6 weeks my little boy (who is 4 months this weekend) has been waking after 3am every 5-20 minutes until morning. He wakes crying, we soothe him and he goes back to sleep but the cycle continues for the rest of the night. He’s not interested to drink milk, nappy is fine, tried adjusting blankets etc incase too hot or cold. At first I figured it was a growth spurt / developmental leap / something of that sort but he’s getting worse and more and more unsettled. He wakes crying like he’s startled / terrified and cries like he never cries in the day (only when he’s had his jabs!). It almost seems like he’s in pain kind of cry sometimes? Have tried teething gel incase it’s his mouth bothering him but it didn’t make a difference. Don’t know what else to try to settle him and feel at a bit of a loss as to what is causing him to wake so often? It’s horrible seeing him so upset for so much of the night and he’s exhausted but just can’t shut off. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated?? Thank you x

  • This use to happen to my daughter (minus the nightmares) I was feeding her every 4 hours but she always used to wake up at 3/4 am just for a cuddle and some milk. Now I feed her every 3 hours and she sleeps the whole night through. I noticed a difference in her after she got the jabs aswell hmm I wonder whats in them that makes baby’s act like that. Also try infacol for the gripping pain because he may also have colic. (My daughter is 5months btw)

  • I agree with Hester and think it could be reflux. My child had reflux and the symptoms sound similar. He was prescribed infant gaviscon. I’d seek a doctors advice x

  • Is he awake? Sounds odd but my little boy used to do this (still does occasionally) I would have to sit and hold his hand or press my face against his just to calm him… he’s 1.5years now and it’s settled loads. The nightlight idea could be worth a try he might not like complete darkness? Feel for you.. it’s horrid when they’re so upset xxx

  • Does he sleep in a Moses basket or crib ? Maybe try a wee nightlight projector to catch his attention before the roaring starts might ease the wee lamb before he becomes so upset ??? X

  • Night terrors maybe? As they are usually around the same time most nights (for most little ones) xx
