Hi can I have a pp please? My son is 3 and recently started nursery at a school. He has always had quite challenging behaviour but I just thought I’d been a bit too soft and let him get away with things a little so kind of created a rod for my own back. He also has a speech delay & sees a speech therapist but is starting to catch up now. However school are very concerned about his behaviour, they say he can’t cope at school. He hits the other children, has difficulty sharing and can get really upset at school. They believe a lot of his frustration is coming from the fact that he has a speech delay so he acts out because he can’t say how he feels or what he wants. He has melt downs at school and they are really struggling with him. His behaviour isn’t always the best at home but I find he is worse at school. I have spoken with my hv and she has put a referral in to see a peaditrician and school have put senco in place. I feel without actually coming out and saying it school are hinting that my son may be autistic. I’m so frustrated with everything as my partner feels there’s nothing more to it, he thinks our son is just testing the teachers and is basically just being naughty but I’m not so sure. I feel like removing my son from the school nursery as his behaviour seems to be much worse when he’s there but im worried that by taking him out of school I will hold him back with his development but on the other hand I’m worried that it’s causing him too much upset by being there. Can anyone offer any advice please? Also if anyone has a child with autism can you tell me the first signs etc. Apart from the odd tantrum when he can’t have his own way we don’t have much concern at home but at school he’s becoming quite distressed. Thanks x
