Hi can I have a ppp, I stood in same room as my mum when she cleaned cat litter out as I was doing something and didn’t realise she was going to clean it out im nearly 18 weeks pregnant is it safe to stand in same room as someone when they clean cat litter? Thank you I know it’s harmful to clean it out myself but standing in same room as someone when they do it? Xx

  • Yes its fine ….If you are cleaning the litter just cover your nose and mouth and wash your hands when finished ….If the cat is a strictly indoor cat there is almost zero chance of toxoplasmosis. …it is a mainly outdoor cat issue

  • Should be okay but speak to your midwife anyway. The risk is due to toxoplasmosis I believe so just ask someone professional and they can advise you further x

  • Yes, I think the issue is you not handling it yourself. If you’re concerned, call your midwife team, they’re available 24/7.

  • Hun im now 27 weeks pregnant I have spent my pregnancy cleaning up litter trays from both my own and rescue cats. You can only get toxo by touching poop then sticking your fingers in your mouth even then its a rare situation and to be honest not many people do that.

Im perfectly fine no toxo and been dealing with it for years two pregnancys later stiĺl fine hun x

  • It’s fine, so long as you don’t touch the used litter or pee or poo
I was in the same room when my partner did ours x

  • It’s fine. It is if you directly touch the dirty litter yourself that there is a risk of toxoplasmosis.
