Hi can i have a private post please. I’m looking for other people’s opinions on this. My partner and I don’t live together but we have a 10 week old baby. My partner has a dog which has American Pitt bull in it (banned breed) . This dog has never bitten anyone but has shown teeth etc. The dog came to my house when baby was newborn and kept on a lead. As soon as baby cried the dog was pulling desperately to get to the baby and he was making a high pitched noise. To me this isn’t safe! Ever since then the dog hasn’t been around baby as I feel it’s too much of a risk. Now my partner says the dog isn’t dangerous and will be fine around the baby and he wants me to allow the dog to be around. I suffer with PND and anxiety so this is really making me worse. I’ve been called stupid for not letting the dog around and unreasonable. What is everyone else’s views? I feel terrible

  • Why is it alive I’m sorry these are banned for a reason even if mixed the news story recently about a 2 year old mauled in her family garden etc I would be getting rspc to do an assessment you would never forgive yourself if something was to happen to your baby xx

  • Whether they are banned or not I wouldn’t leave an animal around a newborn baby… I don’t agree with animals being banned it’s the owner that trains them and dogs only act like they do through learned behaviour…

  • in my honest opinion I had a big staffy and he was amazing around both my boys through pregnancy and both growing up through baby and toddler years yes you can never tell how a dog is going to react but from my experience the dog probably wanted to investigate and try and stop baby crying as mine did this when ever my boys cried he’d cry ❤️I’d give your partner a used baby blanket for dog to sniff and used clothes over a couple of weeks then slowly introduce, that way it’s not a new smell and the doggy doesn’t bound in all excited and cause an accident trying to investigate never leave them alone and never put your full trust in an animal but don’t assume he’ll attack it’ll be good for your child to be around him to and they’ll grow together xxxx
