Hi can I have a private post please? I’ve been prescribed sertaline from my doctor but he wants me to start weaning my son off the boob even though I’ve spoke to many mums who take it and still breastfeed(because their doctor said it was ok) I’m just wondering if anybody noticed any side effects in their infant? Just worried that’s all but don’t want to feel like this anymore and at the same time I’m not ready to give up breastfeeding yet, thanks x

There’s a breastfeeding page on Facebook and they are experts in what medication can and can’t be taken when breastfeeding. I think it’s breastfeeding network something…if you search if should come up
I some at a perinatal mental health conference in Malta in May and one of the research papers did indicate issues with meds and milk but I am not an expert x
From the breast feeding network. They have fact sheets on most medications. Just popped the bit specifically about sertriline x
I was put on sertraline for this reason that the transference to mother and baby is minimal x
I breastfed my son for 11 months whilst taking it with no problems 🙂
I’m on a pretty high dose of it and it doesn’t affect my daughter at all
