Hi could I get a post please with the picture below.

I was at the early pregnancy unit to have a scan on Friday and while we were there my son trapped his fingers in one of the automatic doors, my husband took him to a&e while I was waiting for my scan and they said they were okay but he may lose one of his fingernails.
Since then they have started doing this? I don’t understand what it is and I’m really concerned, has anyone else had anything like this that could give me some advice? Thank you. Xxx

  • They turn bruised before falling off. Basically he has cut off some blood supply to the nail bed so it can’t support the nail. They will grow back when the blood supply is replenished fully. This takes a little while but is nothing to be concerned about. 🙂

  • What a wee shame. It’s fine. My daughter got hers caught in a hotel room door. They went like that and her fingers looked dirty then the nails starting falling off. Hers came through a bit underneath before they fell off. That was summer last year and you wouldn’t know now at all.

  • I had this when I was 10, I got my finger trapped, I had to have surgery to correct it, my nails came off and a new one grew however it doesn’t ever grow has stayed the same length since. X

  • It is the blood supply. If the nail is damaged the blood supply stops feeding it, it then falls away & a new nail grows in its place (same thing happens when teeth get damaged )
