Hi, does anyone know how I can get myself on the council list? I moved into my house last August, it was £200 more each month than my previous rented flat but I didn’t have much choice as my old landlord was selling my old flat and this house was the only place I could find that accepted housing benefit. I’m struggling greatly with the rent shortfall, the rent is £950 a month and housing benefit pays £600 so I use most of my wages to pay the remaining £350. The last few months I’ve had to take out loans to pay the short fall which has now resulted in me being on a debt management plan. I’m a single parent to a 4 year old and am 33 weeks pregnant (my partner left me for another woman when I was 12 weeks pregnant). I applied for the council list and explained everything and they have said they cannot help as I am adequately housed which is fair enough as I know there are homeless people. Is there any way around it? My council also doesn’t have a discretionary extra payment scheme to help with housing benefit either😞 My landlord is not someone who would ‘false evict’ me either. Thankyou xx
