I need some advice mums as I’m stuck on what to do and how to help my step daughter.
She is 5 years old and is still wetting the bed and pooing her pants. I don’t mind that she wet the bed as our bathroom is downstairs and even though we leave the lights on. I don’t know if it’s because she is scared of going downstairs or what but her pooing her pants? Tonight we was watching a film and wouldn’t go to the loo as she didn’t want to miss any of the film so she pooed her pants. We’ve spoke to her and told her she will get a bad tummy and we will stop the film or whatever we are doing for her. She has always struggled with going to the loo and has been on laxatives to help her go loo as she holds it in but hasn’t been on it for the majority of the year. I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience of a child that does.this and how we can help her as I don’t think her mum is really doing alot to help her or help her to stop( don’t mean that horrible to her) any advice welcome x

  • you might have to almost retrain her like when you go to bed wake her up and take her to the toilet so she goes in the night so it’ll cut down the wetting etc, if you’re going to settle in for a movie make everyone go before hand and get up yourself half way through and pause the film and ask if anyone else needs to go and then she will see it’s ok to get up when the film is on etc. also remind her during the day so every half hour or so ask does she need a wee etc or everytime you go announce it do the whole “oh I need a quickwee” to bring it to her attention that it’s a normal thing and everyone does it and it’ll help her think oo I need to go too.

  • I don’t have advice on the pooing herself but as for the night time wetting the bed. Like you our bathroom is downstairs and I didnt and still dont feel comfortable with my 6year old going down there by herself. Instead I have put her old oversized potty (more like a mini toilet lol) in her room. She has a roll of toilet roll, can go when she pleases and I empty it before bed and 1st thing in the morning. Maybe that could be an option?

  • I think there is a machine that you can buy it attaches to the pajamas and as soon as it starts to get wet an alarm goes off to wake them maybe worth a try x
