Major supermarket Iceland have promised to go green!
The retailer has publicised plans to replace all of its own products plastic packaging with trays made of paper and pulp in a five-year.
Iceland are the first retailer to make such a claim in hopes to do better for the environment.
After a recently survey carried out by the supermarket it learnt that 80% of 5,000 people polled agreed to endorse the change and would happily go plastic-free.
Iceland managing director, Richard Walker, said:
“The world has woken up to the scourge of plastics. A truckload is entering our oceans every minute, causing untold damage to our marine environment and ultimately humanity – since we all depend on the oceans for our survival.
“The onus is on retailers, as leading contributors to plastic packaging pollution and waste, to take a stand and deliver meaningful change.”
