My Son Was Nearly Run Over By A Bus But They Blame me

My son Tommy is three years old and a bit of a handful but such a sweet kind boy, my one and only child.

Yesterday after leaving the cinema we walked to the bus station to get the bus home.

Tommy was restless after having sat still in the cinema for so long and having had a pick and mix plus a large orangeade so was running around and burning off some excess energy and sugar high.

As it was Sunday service the buses weren’t as frequent as usual so Tommy was getting bored, he kept running around and  knocking into people so I had to tell him off and asked him to stand still.

Tommy stomped off and leant against a double-decker bus which had just pulled up at the bus station.

The bus was parked there for no more than two minutes when it began to pull away.

Tommy fell under the bus and his head was right by the back wheel, luckily I managed to pull him out in the nick of time before he was ran over, his head was literally inches away from the wheel, I was obviously very upset and shaken up but stayed calm for Tommy.

Finally our bus arrived and I complained to the driver about the previous bus nearly killing my boy and explained that the driver should have checked his mirrors before pulling away as he could have killed my little boy.

I was expecting him to be appalled at the drivers actions but I was shocked by the drivers response he said “well maybe you should watch your son and not blame others”.

Now not only was I still in shock I was angry and upset, I sent an email to the bus company and am awaiting a reply how can they blame my child or me the driver should have looked after all it is his job to ensure people are safe.

To be honest the driver is right. He wouldnt expect anyone to be leaning against the bus and you shouldnt have let him. Glad he is ok tho.

  • Why would you let a 3 year old even touch a vehicle with the engine running? The drivers mirrors wont cover the full length of the bus as they’re set to check for other road users and not little people who might happen to be leaning on the bus. I’m glad your little one is ok but you really can’t blame the driver.
