Please could I have a private post

So basically me and my partner split just after the birth of our daughter, we both suffered badly with postnatal depression and we were better apart. I currently live alone with my daughter and get maternity pay and working/child tax credits. I will return to work soon but am reducing my hours cause my child care costs so much. Myself and my ex are trying to wrk things out however we have very different views on money. I wondered how everyone ‘as a family’ dealt with money in the house.
I was always brought up to pool all the money and pay bills and split what was left but he doesn’t think this is fair because he earns more than me. ( he only earns more because I dropped my hours at work to look after our daughter) we would not be able to afford full time childcare at 50 a day. I would lose my child and working tax credits if he moved in because his income would be taken into consideration so I would have nothing after bills had be halved if we just halved the bills and kept what was left of each of our own wages. I just wondered if I was wrong to expect all our money to be put together to pay bills and then shared? I can’t see us ever getting back together if this is going to be an arguement for the rest of our life.

Thanks x

  • I don’t u understand why this is an issue it’s his child too so either he drops his hours for u to work to earn equal money or tell him to man up and put all money together x
