Pp please. I’m needing advice on what to do, I don’t know whether I’m over reacting. My son had croup last week, it’s a worry because he already has breathing issues so it meant spending some time in hospital, he’s recovered well which is a relief but since Monday he has been complaining of tummy ache. He is 3 years old and a very active little boy and for him to say he has tummy ache worried me a little. Iv kept a close eye on him and throughout the week his temperature has been fluctuating to 35.5 to 38, iv gave calpol when his temperature has been high and ensured he has plenty of blanket etc when he has been cold. He has also been pale and I noticed that when he was warm his hands were cold. He has had very little sleep and has been waking up in the middle of the night saying his tummy hurts. I have been to the doctors twice now, both times I have not been happy with their advice. First doctor said they felt it was a virus and to keep an eye on him, 2 doctor told me that he didn’t think my child presented unwell as he was alert and walking about, also stating that if a child is ill it is unlikely that they would be active. His temperature was 38 at this point extremely pale and I wouldn’t say he was active, he was walking about upset not knowing what to do with himself. At this point after having 2 weeks of very little sleep I snapped and said that my son is not a text book child and as a parent I believe that my son is ill and I am asking for help, he asked me what I wanted him to do about it, I reminded him of the symptoms my son was presenting and the fact he is a doctor I was hoping he would tell me. He prescribed me some anti biotics but couldn’t tell me if my son had an infection, he started on the antibiotics yesterday and although he looks a bit better his temperature is still fluctuating and his hands are cold. What would other mummies do in this instance….would you keep an eye on him or ring 111?
