Ppp. Me and my bf are splitting up it’s all friendly and right for us I’m 28 weeks pregnant and working still but the house is joint tenant and he’s willing to leave but if I were to claim housing benefit will i have to inform my landlord? I don’t think he’d be too happy about it x

  • Legally he’d need to come off the tenancy however if you do claim housing benefits your landlord would be made aware anyway so it’d be better to tell him yourself but he couldn’t kick you out straight away hun if your claiming for just yourself you’ll hardly get anything and then when baby is born they’ll give you two bedroom allowance which depending where you live should be around 400 every 4 weeks wouldn’t matter if you were single or with a partner you’ll still only get one bedroom allowance for now until baby is born unless you have other children xxx

  • U will be entitled to housing benefit and I would be straight with your landlord and explain u will still have to pay your rent but it may get topped up by housing benefit
It depends how much you earn.but when u have the baby u will be on maternity and will get benefits to top up.explain to your landlord and get it send directly to him.No use not telling him as he will find out 😊

  • I managed to claim housing as a single person even though my ex husband was on tenancy. They knew he had moved out but was in arrears so let me claim, but couldn’t take his name off until arrears were off and cleared for a year. Xxx

  • If your with a house Association and rent is behind u can’t take his off the tenancy until it’s cleared but yes u can as a single claim but I’m not sure how is works with a private landlord

  • I private rented for 8yrs and none of my landlords ever knew about my housing benefit top up. There was a section on my form which asked if they can contact my landlord and I just ticked the No box.

  • When I claimed it went straight into my bank account and I didn’t ever tell my landlord. U would have to have the tenancy agreement in ur name only but u would only have to tell the landlord it’s because ur partner isn’t there anymore. The council will probably ask to see the tenancy agreement x

  • I’d definitely speak to the landlord for the simple fact that sometimes there’s a few weeks/months delay on a housing benefit claim being sorted. They will backdate it to the date you claim but if your unable to afford full rent yourself then its worth your landlord knowing it could be abit short for a few weeks x

  • No u dnt need to inform the landlord. As it will be paid directly to u and then u just pay ur rent as usual. X

  • Some letting insurances can be made void if the landlord isn’t told about housing benefit.

  • All what you have to do is take his name off the tenancy Ring the landlord to see how xx

  • U can do it without telling u landlord hun they pay u if u request that or it can go direct to ur landlord x
