  • Nothing happens to them at all, any blankets go threw scanner and they allow car chairs but they have to go through scanner you just hold baby, your allowed one bottle of milk and a nappie and wipes although I had to leave thay downstairs and go if he needed changing, they don’t touch your child though so it’s nothing to worry about, don’t believe the horrors you hear about it’s all bull x

  • I know the one here they let you take nappy and a pack of wipes in a clear bag..you have to leave the changing bag in a locker…u can take a bobo with you…you would have to lift baby out the car seat but they won’t search baby just check the seat and put blankies thru the X-ray…they don’t pat down under 16’s…I really wouldn’t worry I used to think that a visit room was going to be this scary place but it was such a nice place has a soft play area, bouncers, high chairs and loads of toys…what I would say is maybe book a family visit so your father in law is allowed more movement than just sitting in the chair with baby, i think you would maybe be more relaxed in that atmosphere as it’s obviously a visit which is mainly so parents/grandparent/aunts/uncles can get up and play with the children. ☺️☺️ hope this helps.

  • Every prison is different. My sons dads been in 3 different ones since he was 3 months old and each one is slightly different. None of them allowed me to take a car seat through, I was allowed to take in milk in all of them. And/or water in 1. 2 of them used a metal wand thing to wave over my son and 1 of them just gently patted him down. My experiences have been fine. Doesn’t really seem like you’re in a prison. Not like I thought they’d be to be honest x

  • When I used to go and visit my ex.. he was in a young offenders institute, I used to see mom’s with baby, they had to take baby out of car seat and the car seat used to go through the scanner and then get felt down but it was the dogs that used to scare me tbh xx

  • Are you going with him? The reason I ask is it can be a daunting experience going the first time. The prison has strict rules you must be there x amount of minutes before visit starts so as they can check you in and do the relevant security checks e.g. Jacket off any money yr taking in (for tea coffee if they have the facilities) belts have to be taken off and sometimes your shoes all yr other belongings go in a locker that you need a pound for. You walk through the checker bit like an airport one then you wait in the waiting room till your allowed to continue to the visit you may also get checked again at this point look in your mouth pat down incase anything hidden and if you’ve got long hair it’s checked. Sometimes random drug spot checks are conducted so taken into a room the one I know of was a white cloth ran over clothes and tested nothing alarming. I’ve seen first timers being anxious but it’s something you learn to overcome. Babies and children do not get checked and yr nappy bottle etc would go through the scanner. It’s not bad but I felt you should also be aware of the process if your going so as you know what to expect. There’s also info on the web by each prison so just look up the one that’s relevant.

  • Babies don’t get searched at all, I used to take my little one in every day from the age of 7 weeks and never once had him searched x

  • Prisons are massive on family and try to make it as easy as possible, call the family centre for the prison and they will alleviate any of your anxiety
