Hi can I have a ppp? I have already left a message with my HV just waiting for a call back but wondered if any other mums had advice. My little girl is 2.5 and for as long as I can remember she’s been scared of loud noises especially the hoover. It’s gradually getting worse to the point she cries, screams and shakes and if I even say the word hoover she automatically goes stiff and will say hoover gone repeatedly before crying and shaking. She’s always been wary of loud sounds like buses, trucks, motorbikes and washing machines etc… now she has started to get worked up if get anything electronic most recent examples are my straighteners and charger she broke down saying gone now and cried. I’m getting quite worried and it’s horrible to watch her so upset. I know kids are scared of noises but I don’t know what to do it’s killing me seeing her like this. I’ve been told it could be to do with her hearing? I’ve tried talking and explaining to her, trying to turn it into a game and make it fun but she won’t even be near anything. Any advice please, thanks for reading.

  • My son always did this he’d have an absolute breakdown with anything loud going out anywhere I used to pray no one put the handryer on in the toilets as a meltdown would start he is 4 nearly 5 now and he just suddenly stopped being as bothered by anything he’ll still cover his ears with the hoover or dryers his hearing is fine and no ADHD or autism he just didn’t like anything that made a loud noise

  • Two of my three children are autistic and are very sensitive to loud noises. Going to toilets with those jet engines of hand dryers were a nightmare. We use noise cancelling headphones when needed. You can buy children’s ones in lovely colours from most places now.
