Can a man ever really change ?

I was seeing a guy for a year and during that year he cheated many times he has a drinking problem and he lied alot

I let go in the end
He has now been working on himself and realised that he loves me and wants to get close again but for me it’s done with .I still care about him but I no longer feel the same I guess it’s the classic too little too late
Has anyone else been in this position
