I am on maternity leave right now with my second baby. I have told my work before leaving that I intended to take the full years mat leave with obv the holiday time accumulated over the year at the end of that. Now that I am five months in I am struggling to get by financially and finding it difficult to save for the three months unpaid mat leave so thinking I may have to go back after the 9 months.
My question is if I was to take the full year which means three months unpaid and according to tax credits it would be as if I were unemployed so would no longer receive my working tax credits for those months only child tax credits. Would I be entitled to help such as housing benefit to help with costs? Or not because it would be my choice to stay off those three other months. Unsure and can’t get an answer anywhere online.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
