Bit of background first sorry. I’m currently a week overdue with my first baby and on maternity leave from work. I’m booked into see my consultant tomorrow and they are going to do a sweep, so at the moment we are a bit unsure as to when our lg is going to be born! My OH works 16 hours per week in a local convenience store, he doesn’t have a written contract that he signed (stupid I know!), but when he has gone into work today and told his boss what’s happening with me his boss has told him that if I go into labour when he is working then he has to arrange his own cover for his shift. Now he has asked around the other staff but no-one can commit to definitely cover as they are for the most part working mums themselves. Now the trouble is his boss has told him that if he can’t get cover then he won’t be able to leave work to be with me even if that means missing the birth! Does his boss have the right to stop him leaving during a shift? He has told his boss every appointment we have had and gives him daily updates to the situation, his boss has known my due date since February and my OH has arranged cover for all the shifts that coincided with my appointments? Looking for a bit of advice as to how he could handle his boss if he does have to leave? Thanks lovelies x
