Can I have a pp please ?

My son is 10 years and has various disabilities. I am quite stressed at the moment as I am fighting to get more support for him. The reason I mention this is because recently my sons dad was forced to pay maintenance after 10 years of not paying a penny. Now he has to pay this money he is now saying he wants to give up all parental responsibilities. This is so he can stop paying maintenance. This is generally very upsetting – I’ve not told my son and wouldn’t , however it’s just extra stress I don’t need and I wondered if it was true. Is it as easy as just going ‘ I don’t feel like being a dad anymore’ ?!
He is named on the brith certificate as his father and has never wanted any contact with him. (Just to clarify he left me after I found out I was pregnant and had another family I had no idea about . He was in agreement to conceive my son ). Thanks x
