Can I have a private post please?

My daughter has head lice for the first time. Ive used a comb and got all bugs out and most eggs. She has hedrin in her hair just now for the 8hrs and will be repeating tomorrow too and next week as recommended. Can anyone give me any tips on how to get rid asap? We’re a very clean family. Baths every 2nd night, house always bleached etc. I’m embarrassed and gutted she has caught them from school. No bashing 😳

Thanks x

  • Having headline doesn’t mean you’re not clean and you’re dirty, every child gets them unfortunately. Just keep combing through and using the hedrin. Send her to school in plaits or a bun as well. Easier to catch if her hair is just down xx lauren

  • Lol it’s nothing to do with being unclean!!! It’s this attitude that gets kids picked on at school! Don’t have her hair down long at school buy head lice treatment n treat her hair job done. Unfortunately u can’t control where he other parents debug their kids hair! So it could come back again! School are meant to send home a note to say head lice in their class so make sure u inform school

  • I’m a hairdresser it has nothing to do with how clean you are head lice like clean hair it’s nothing to be embarrassed about every kid gets them keep applying the solution as recommended also do everyone else in the house hold it’s a myth that they can’t jump because they can this issue is if she’s caught them from school they’re gonna do the rounds until every parent gets rid of them so she may get them a few more times yet x

  • I’ve heard vinegar is meant to be good. Smelly but good. Also once treated use vosene shampoo when washing your daughters hair. Nits are a big phobia of mine 😖 even the word makes me itch. I wash my hair in tea tree and my sons with vosene. Touch wood not had any (my sons at nursery)

  • My son is 3 and caught a headlice whilst at hospital was literally 1 I comb through his hair every day after nursery I’d suggest speaking to school so letters can go out about headline in my sons nursery newsletter there’s always a part with headlice it’s just a reminder to keep ontop. We’re clean he baths every night and can have multiple showers throughout the day

  • Having headlice doesn’t mean you aren’t clean. My son comes home with them every other week. Ive told the school every time because it costs me £10 at least for hedrin and a lot of cleaning and washing and they do nothing about it. So I do everything I need to, use hedrin, clean sofas, beds, hoover, wash bedding and clothes, toys etc then boom they’re back again. Nothing you can do. Nothing to be embarrassed about x

  • All children get nits… nothing to feel ashamed of.. it’s only ever been my daughter to have them but soon as I know she has I’ve treated her head right away… it’s the parents
that don’t treat their children that are crawling with lice who want to feel ashamed x

  • Remember to wash the bedding too! Unfortunately they like clean hair. It seems your little one is just so friendly and must cuddle a lot of children. It can’t be helped. I got it a lot at primary because I had long hair xxx

  • Nits go to clean hair not dirty got nothing to do with being unclean. Just keep combing her hair. I use a nitty gritty and conditioner do it several times a week. Also wash all bedding towels close.
And also use vosene shampoo it has anti lice stuff in it so keep them away xx

  • The cleaner the head the easier it is to get them, I’ll shower my kids every other day but shampoo only twice a week…head lice doesn’t mean your dirty…we still haven’t had that plague yet and im dreading it

  • She’s gonna have them loads of times unfortunately, no doubt until she gets to highschool that’s when shel be free of them for good, I had them hundreds of times during primary school and since I left in 2006 I’ve never had them since x

  • Comb and conditioner to get rid of the headlice. I used to work in child care what i did was tire my hair up in a bun and use hair spray every day i went and every 2 weeks or so ran the hair straighter throw my hair. And wash everything in hot water.

  • Doesn’t matter how clean u are unfortunately most children go threw it heard nitty gritty combs are good and also when u put your wee one in the bath or shower after u wash her hair put conditioner in it and comb threw a good few times over a week that helps with any loose eggs. Xxx

  • Wash her hair in Coca-Cola cheap stuff is best do it over the bath they just fall out leave in for 10-15 minutes rinse out then wash her hair may need 2 washes but kills all eggs and lice and the fall out as your washing hair x

  • Do what you’re doing keep her hair up let the school know so hey can send out a letter to other parents to check their kids hair and use tea tree shampoo to prevent anymore as head lice don’t like it

  • Headlice like clean hair 😉

Just dry comb daily and do an extra good comb with hair conditioner one day a week (Sunday here). You don’t need chemicals. Try and keep hair up during the school day.

  • Get a nitty gritty comb from boots! Works 100% percent. I use it every Sunday after my daughter shower.. and she had them once when she 4..bought the comb and never since! Definitely worth the £10 x

  • My aunties a hair dresser she said best thing is she put hair up and sprays a little hairspray as they apparently don’t like the smell also as it’s a little sticky the tend to get stuck which make them easier to see xx

  • I found if use tea tree conditioner in a spray bottle with water and put into a tight bun whilst spraying onto it or in braids headlice dont like tea tree

  • If your child is at school then they are bound to catch nits. Theres a nit comb you can buy from boots it’s about £10 but it’s brilliant at getting nits and lice out in one go x
