Can I have PP please… employed mums to be does your maternity allowance get averaged over 4 weeks pay or 8 weeks … I was hospitalised yesterday for 24hrs and they advise I start my maternity leave now rather than in 2 weeks time when I’m due too because of the heat and me being a care assistant in a nursing home… but my manager will not allow me to do so due to being short staffed I need to either go on the sick or just work it want to no if it’s worth me risking having bugger all pay and take two weeks sick or just put up with work for the next 2 weeks I’m nearly 31 weeks pregnant xxx

Once past 29wks you are legally entitled to start maternity leave when YOU choose. Your employer does not have to like it but they can not stop you. They can only enforce you take maternity leave at 36wks & then only if you have had multiple pregnancy related sickness absence
