  • I had a visit around 28 weeks. She took info from me about me and my partner, introduced herself and what the team do and are around for. She had a set of questions to ask about our mental health and what we knew or didn’t know about baby care, bottles, baths, sleeping, if we’d got support for when baby was born etc. At first I thought it was going to be patronising and she’d want to assess the house and sleeping arrangements but it was far from it, she was lovely.
I didn’t get my red book though, I got that when I was discharged from hospital. X

  • Just to introduce themselves and do initial paperwork and to ask if you actually want a health visitor – you don’t have to. I didn’t get my red book – that was still provided by the hospital at birth.

  • Mine came so she could introduce herself and explain what health visitors are for, she said they used to give red books at these visits in my area but they now give them in hospital so people don’t forget them or lose them when they have their baby xx

  • Just to come and meet you. Help with any questions that you could have. Give you up to date info regarding making bottles etc. You can politely decline any service from the health visitor if you wish yo do so xx

  • I never had a health visitor out to see me when I was pregnant , I got given the red book when I had my lb in hospital and the health visitor came a few days after I was home from hospital

  • Just to introduce themselves. I had one with my son (which turned out to be pointless, because when he was born,I had a new one and had another new one by the time he was 4 months,I didn’t have a permanent HV until he was 3)

  • I had one come out with my first to see me then when I had my second not long ago they rang me to ask if I needed them out before baby born I said no I was fine, so they didn’t come out x

  • Mine asked questions about mine and my partners family tree, who we lived near ect, I didn’t really like it tbh and found it abit pointless seeing as I’ve already had a son x

  • Aye I had one, it was just a “hey I’m…I’ll be your health visitor” asked me if I had any questions etc.
I think they try and do it as often as possible but sometimes with their work loads they can’t always get out to a mother before the baby is born, which is why some with multiple children will find they had an early visit for one, but not the other etc.

A friend has 3 kids, she got an early visit for one, but not the other two and it was just down to at the time, who she’d been assigned didn’t have a chance/time too
