Could I have a ppp?
I have a three year old son with Cerebral Palsy. I’ve recently been put in touch with a young careers ground as I’m 22. They have suggested to get in contact with social services just for extra support. They have reassured me that it’s nothing to do with how me and my husband (sons bio dad) are raising him, just to make sure we’re getting all the support we need etc. Has anyone else gone though this?

  • I was advised to reach out to a disability social worker when I had my daughter. I had just turned 23 and had a daughter with a rare and complex heart condition. I was a single parent with 2 other children aged 3 and 5, and my daughter needed tube fed and 8 meds throughout the whole day and night. A referral was put in for extra support at my request but ss denied any form of help to me as they felt I didn’t need it. It’s honestly nothing to do with your parenting x

  • A disability social worker is different to a duty social worker. A disability social worker does things like help you get into support groups to meet new people in the same boat, ensure your son is getting the right help and support from school, help fund any adaptations or grants towards things and arranges things like respite care if you ever need a break. X

  • Social services for children with disabilities it’s not the same as social services for other reasons they can provide u with things u need or may need in future or grants respite or just a chat

  • You can ask for an OT through social services and they can suggest adaptations to your home and help find funding for it x
