Looking for some advice. Basically I have a 8 year old daughter who hasn’t seen her “real dad” since before she was 1 years old. His own choice he has walked away, always kept same number he knew where we lived for years ( moved recently but still local) I am now married with another child and step children. My daughter sees my husband as her dad .. so last night we was talking as was close to where he real dad lives. About is it worth just asking him to sign over rights to her. He has never paid a penny never sent a birthday card etc ever! But the downside is my husband said it’s “opening a can of worms” if he says no!
When we was together he was violent he cheated, he got caught chatting and meeting up with 14 years old. He is 37 so isn’t young!
I’ve seen him on Facebook nothing has changed he is still living with his mum, still out drinking all the time, all he is bothered about is catching celebs and have pictures with them lol I like to think he would agree but worried if he didn’t I personally think he has left it too long to come back from it.

What would signing over his rights achieve? Hes not exercising his rights so makes no difference. If your wanting to give step dad PR then you can do that through the courts as long as you tell them you have no way of contacting real dad (not technically true but could well be as you havent seen him in years)
The easiest way to do it would be to appoint your husband as a guardian. Dad gets no say in that,it doesnt give him official PR but as good as x
Don’t quote me on this I read somewhere after three years there rights are revoked and has no say in anything anyway don’t go buy this as was just something i saw I’m in this position and want to do the same x
Does he have parental responsability?
