Does anyone have any experience with young children who wake up, roughly 3-4 hours after they go to bed, literally screaming their heads off? My son, who is a little over 15 months old, has started waking a few hours after bed time screaming bloody murder, completely inconsolable, real tears, the whole works. This usually lasts about an hour before he falls back asleep.

When he is having one of his ‘episodes’, literally nothing will get his attention and distract him from bawling the house down. Cuddles, food, drinks, toys, noises …. Nothing works. He just screams. And screams. And screams.

It’s only ever happened during his first wake up too which is very odd. Once he has fallen asleep again, he will waken up about 4 hours later and he will be fine, just yapping away to himself in his cot, sometimes standing up to try and get our attention, but never the screaming fit he has at first wake up.

Could it be something like night terrors? I mean he seems genuinely traumatised by whatever it is that has upset him. It only happens at night, never with any other sleeps, including day time naps.
