Hello could I have a post please?
I’ve been to my hospital today for my GTT (I’m 28 weeks had it a little late) and they were giving out these packs to mums who want to breastfeed saying you can now express before baby is born. My question is how long has that been ok? I breastfed my daughter and I was always told not to disturb breast milk until she was born. And a second question when can I actually start expressing then? I’ll attach a picture of the pack xxx

  • 36 weeks pregnant is when to start hand expressing, not before as can bring on premature labour. But it’s brilliant to help boost your milk production once baby is here. And it’s good to keep in the freezer ready for baby if for some reason baby won’t feed, or latch on or your poorly etc. X

  • From approx 36 + weeks. NOT before as can bring on premature labour. These are typically used in the trust I work in for mothers with gestational diabetes as the babies are more likely to have deranged blood sugars following delivery. Speak to your midwife first x
