Hey, can I have a private post please?

So my fiance and I are expecting our first baby. We are both extremely happy and excitied. But there is one thing that is eating at me and it is our relationship with his mother.

The last time I saw his mother was just over a year ago. She was drunk and being verbally abusive to my fiance and she then turned on me. He packed his bags that night and has lived with me ever since. He has made very little effort to contact her since the incident and has exchanged 1 or 2 messages with her at most.

As he works away, she constantly sends me messages asking me how he is and now shes messaged me saying she has some clothes for our baby and she cant wait to be a grandma. I have asked my fiance what he would like me to do about these messages and he wants me to just ignore her.

I know that this is really hurting him. He doesn’t have much family and at the end of the day, she is still his mum. I dont want him to feel cut off from what little family he has left just for my sake. I will always treat her with respect regardless of whats happened and will be happy to try and work together as a family.

The only thing is, I wouldn’t want our baby near her whilst she is still struggling with this 20+ year long addiction. She is such a nice person when shes sober, I dont even know what I am trying to ask here? Has anyone ever been in a similar situation and had a happy ending?
