Hi can I please have a private post. Me and my partner of almost 2 years have a little boy who is 1 years old what rights do grandparents have over your children? Plus also what’s the chances of social services being involved when his so called grandma is going to express concerns to them?

  • Grandparents don’t have automatic rights but if taken to court may be granted contact if they previously had a “meaningful” relationship with the child and there are no safeguarding issues. By meaningful they mean that the grandparent saw the child several times a week/was a caregiver of the child regularly. They would have to prove that their absence in the child’s life would be detrimental to the child’s emotional wellbeing.
So for example if the grandparent watched the child every week for 2 days a week while the parents worked and could prove it.
Or if the child lived in the same house as the grandparent (either with or without the parents)
If there are safeguarding concerns then it’ll be up to the parents to voice and prove these in court

  • Grandparents do have rights just not the rights you would thinks. In some cases grandparents can see the child if no case of neglect is in place so they can go to court for access. They didnt used to but they do now. And any claim made against you will be checked not mateer how small as there is a child involved. X hope this helps.

  • Unfortunately for some grandparents don’t have any rights but if they make claims against you then social servies will look into them x
