Hiya could i have a private post please?
My partner and his ‘ex wife’ are still married, i only found out just before i gave birth to our son a year and a half ago. Apparantly they didnt know either as they put in for divorce years ago, and it went bankrupt or something so they didny find out until 5 years later which i know is bollocks.
Anyway my question is how much would it cost for a divorce if they have been seperated over 5 years now? His ex is saying its £350 each but my dad has said that he got his divorce for free, if not then it definitely wont be that expensive but i havent got a clue. My partner won’t sort it out he’s just letting his ex do it all when i told him she could be making out its more expensive than it actually is. I know its up to them to sort out but its been years already and they dont seem bothered about still being married, so im trying to push my partner to sort it himself instead of his ex doing it so then he knows its actually gone through. Just not sure if to believe it’ll as expensive as she has said ? Thanks xx

  • If they have no assets to share and they already have a mutual agreement over the kids. It can be done for free if one of them are on low income. You just have to apply to the courts yourself . Thats how I done it x

  • my ex has paid £450 which was paid direct to the courts. you can download the papers for free online to cut out the middle man if there is no property or child access that needs disputing

  • I got my divorce for free. As I was on a low income. I printed the papers off the gov.co.uk website. There is also another form to fill in if you have a low income on that website too. But if she is the one filing for divorce she has to pay it, unless agreed by both parties to pay half each.

  • I was working full time but solely had a flat to run, when I went to to see about a divorce they advised me to fill out a payment exemption form, when they reviewed everything I only had to pay £15 for my divorce. Best £15 I’ve ever spent

  • If you do forms yourself & agreement. Forms are easy. Request 3 copies from the court which saves you paying for photocopy everything. Court fee is set by government at £550 just now. Changes every year though.
