My daughter is 14months and still isn’t walking or standing by herself she will walk on her walker and if you hold her hands she will walk with you but as soon as you go to let go she will drop to her knees. Anyone have any suggestions on how to encourage her to walk by herself? X

  • take it from someone who is currently racing after a very fast walker…..let her sit as long as you can, be grateful XD nah in all seriousness 14 months isnt old enough to be worrying. shes just not ready. she will take off in a matter of hours when shes ready. Is there furniture she can stand near or walk along ? she will build up her confidence that way

  • Hope this helps ๐Ÿ™‚ my son started walking quite early but I was told it’s more common more big children to do things earlier, all children are different one day she’ll just go then you’ll hope she stops๐Ÿ˜‚my son is 2 and constantly running round like a loony I wish he’d sit still longer than 2 mins ๐Ÿ˜‚x if she is walking with a walker I wouldn’t be worried, cause she is walking just aided so I wouldn’t of thought they was a problem, if you are worried I’d talk to your health visitor or someone, as they are there to help and support you๐Ÿ™‚x

  • If she can walk with a walker etc then I wouldn’t worry, she will get there when she’s ready, my daughter didn’t walk unaided till she was 17 months old even tho she had been using a push along walker for about 5 months, I didn’t think she would ever do it!! Yet my older daughter had walked the week of her first birthday, they are all different and she will do it eventually xx

  • They will only do it when they’re ready. My lb was exactly like this at the same age and he suddenly one day just did it. He’s now a very active nearly 3 year old and his just 1 year old brother is exactly the same so I’m expecting him to be off any time.

  • I would just continue doing what you’re doing..using the walker, walking holding her hands (practice walking holding just 1 hand) &letting her walk/cruise along furniture, she’ll just need to build her confidence x

  • Stop using a walker. She won’t learn to wall in a walker. They are pushing theirself in a walker not walking . I didn’t bother even having a walker wth my second they are pretty pointless imo

  • She will walk when shes ready and feels confident enough my son didnt start walking until a couple of days before he turned 18 months i was always worried so i know how u feel. Just keep doing what your doing try and get something that she can walk with. If shes cruising around furniture and can walk holding your hand then theres nothing to worry about. It took my son quite a while to build his confidence but once he did theres no stopping him now xxxx

  • All babies are different and to be fair it doesn’t matter how much you encourage all babies hit milestones differently ๐Ÿ™‚

For example I have a friend whose baby is 8months and can’t sit unassisted, roll back to his belly and doesn’t like food.

But my son is 6months can sit unassisted, loves food, rolls belly to back and back to belly, is trying to crawl, says Mumma and has great hand eye coordination ๐Ÿ™‚

All babies are different she’s probably just not ready, although I have a friend who swears by getting standing walkers? They hold them and it supports them and they have to move with it

  • Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much you encourage they will just do it when they are ready, she’s only just turned 1! Not all children reach the same milestones all at the same time!

  • She will. My baby didn’t walk until she was almost 16 months. She held hands for a long time until she got her confidence. Now I can barely keep up with her!
