P.P.P
Need advice and experiences of others about my son who’s 5yrs old (6 next month) still wetting at night. He wears a nappy still and NEVER wakes up for a wee! He goes to bed at 7pm and I have to get him up for a wee at 9pm if I forget or am late he’s often already wet and leaked out of nappy and wet the bed, always sleeps though wetting, it doesn’t wake him even if he’s soaked through! I again take him about 11 when I go to bed or he would wake soaked through in the morning, even with me taking him twice often has wet nappy in the morning but not normally leaked out. He doesn’t drink excessively and we’ve stopped milk before bed as this made it worse (often had leaked when I went up at 9pm). I have spoken to school nurse who said for me to take him to doctors and that they would offer a drug that may stop him weeing as much at night or a bed alarm, don’t like the sound of either!! Would like to hear any experience with either of these or other options! This is not a massive issue, it doesn’t bother him or me except it’s a bit of a pain sometimes, just think it’s time I tried to sort it with him turning 6 soon! When I talk to him about it he just says ‘ I just don’t wake up, mummy’! I can’t and won’t just leave him as he’d just lay in a wet bed all night, he’s a great sleeper! Thanks in advance.

  • I’ve got the same problem with my 6 year old (soon to be 7). I was told by my g.p that they don’t see it as being a problem till the child is 7. We’ve now cut out any drink after 6pm he goes to the toilet before he goes to bed and I lift him at 9.30. We’re getting to the stage where he’s dry 2 nights out of 7 with at least 3 of these where when I lift him at 9.30 he’s saturated. I would recommend trying a bed alarm however if he’s a heavy sleeper he may not hear it xx

  • Maybe it’s the types of drinks he’s drinking? Some liquids may go through him more than others? I stop my daughter drinking at 6pm even tho she doesn’t go to sleep until 9pn and she’s dry, occasional accident if she’s in an extremely deep sleep.

  • Getting dry can take time for different ages.. We were all late wetters. Like 10. 11 . 13. So Have some of my children. You can see your gp. He will refer you to a wet clinic. Found them to be really helpful if you want to inbox me please do so x

  • My son is exactly the same and he’s 6 in June. I’m just leaving it for now. I’ve tried everything at home. Maybe another year I’ll take him to the doctors. I mentioned it to the doc before and they said they don’t usually do anything until 7 anyway. X

  • Just keep at what your doing, we had the same problem with our nearly 6 year old lifting him out 2-3 times for toilet, he is now dry at night but still have to lift him to loo

  • my son was 7 in december . he gos to bed at 8 doesnt drink after 6. 630 latest i wake him for toilet at 10 .30 n he was the same . he became shy and ashamed . i took him to doctors and hes been put on some medication . it stops his kidneys producing urine during night . hes had them 3 days n had 3 dry nights and he is so much happier in himself . hez on the meds for 3 month in which time he will have a kidney scan and hopefully his kidneys will have learnt to relax at nigjt insted of working over time . speak to your doctor . they have a few good ideas we tried bladder training too which worked then stopped working šŸ™‚
