Please may I have a private post

I’m looking for some advice? Or of anyone who has also been through this? Is this normal for some children?

Firstly thank you for taking the time to read most post. I have never done anything like this before…
I live with my husband and my two daughters 11 & 7.. My youngest is a real scardy pants. Frightened of her own shadow.. she’s very shy when not with people or at places she knows. She won’t go upstairs alone, won’t play in her bedroom, and now bedtimes are becoming so upsetting for both my daughter and myself. It’s very rare she sleeps through in her own bed and she now has very regular nightmares. When she tells me what has happened in her dreams they always seem to be about something awful happening to me (mummy) or her not being able to get to me or me dying. At bedtime I or someone has to stay upstairs with her(not in her room). She’ll ask me to do jobs upstairs or go to bed early so she’s not alone. Tonight I decided to try and break this cycle as there was only us two in.. she was so upset, shaking and panicky (this was not a tantrum) she was terrified -telling me someone would break in. I took her back several times and then she stayed in bed but still very upset and worried – we’ve talked about her fears and I’ve done what I think I can to reassure her. In the end I gave in as I couldn’t have her feeling so frightened or alone… I’m asking for any advice ? Has anyone else been through anything like this ? Should I seek outside help? Or am I over thinking and worrying ? Thanks in advance for any help or advice – I just want my girl to feel safe x
