Pp please

So i haven’t been in contact with my ex husbands parents since my 5 year old was 3 months old.
He was very abusive towards me and they had to deal with a lot of problems from him for years even before I came on the scene.
They finally decided that they no longer could deal with all the problems he caused and wanted no contact anymore even with their grandchildren. I suffered depression at the time so i feel I need closure and to talk to them again.

How would anyone first start contact and what would you say??
I’m not expecting a reply from them but if they decide they now want to see their grandchildren and myself now my ex is not around then I would potentially slowly introduce them to my kids.
