Yesterday my 1 year old got a really high temp. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the thermometer but gave him calpol as he was burning to touch. After 2 hours I found the thermometer and his temp was still 38.2. So I rang out of hours doctor. They rang back after 4 hours and said it was a viral infection and to keep him dosed up on calpol. Through the night he wasn’t hot but then I went in at 6:45am and he’s boiling up again. I’ve given him another dose of calpol. He’s slightly off his milk (only drank 2oz instead of guzzling 9oz) but I’m confused because his legs and feet are really cold. But from the top of his nappy all the way up he’s just so hot.

Anyone have any advice? And their child has had anything similar?

  • My little one (8 month old) has had this since Wednesday 😱 it’s a fever virus going around, I was on the phone last night to 111 and had 3 call backs checking his temperature was staying below 40 because it was reaching that. This morning his temperature has gone back to normal, he’s not burning up on his face or chest anymore without anything to help keep it down. Hoping this is the end but calpol every 4 hours and Nurafen every 6 hours worked best for us keeping his temperature down. Hope they feel better soon xxx

  • My son ended up in hospital a few weeks ago due to a temp of 40.4 but hes hands and feet were cold they told me this is cos the blood is busy trying to get rid of the infection elsewhere so their extremities tend to go cold…
Best to get him to the docs x

  • Alternate with ibuprofen, calpol rarely works on its own with high temp. If he’s still taking some fluids, having wet nappies he should be fine, if he becomes worse today take him to the doctors

  • Our little girl had this a coupke of weeks ago, she was really ill with a high temp as she couldnt keep medicine down. We took her to doctors and hospital numerous times and they eventually gave us some antibiotics, which she had an allergic reaction to. Honestly wasted our time we were better off just keeping her comfy at home. If you’re worried, for peace of mind, go get checked but keep him dosed up on calpol and fluids. Hope he gets better soon x

  • If his tempt isn’t coming down with carpool then you need to see the doctor. My doctor tried telling me it was a viral infection. Ended up at a&be where she was admitted. A mother knows best x
