Private post please.

Please no one take this the wrong way but does anyone know whether or not I have a say in the care I receive with regards to my pregnancy? I am in Scotland and I find My Consultant seems to shrug my anxiety off whereas I feel it should be treated like any other underlying condition that would warrant a little extra monitoring? I had growth scans with my two sons so would like these done again this time round and would also like weekly non stress tests for the last month? Is that unreasonable? I ended up admitted the week before my delivery with my youngest due to my mental health kicking into overdrive and really wanted to avoid that this time round and feel a well structured plan would help prevent this. I planned on sending this in writing to my consultant for their consideration as I always get so upset at my antenatal appointments (Wanted to add I see the mental health team but find them very little help)

  • Could you reply to my post please that I know I don’t necessarily need the extra scans etc but my anxiety is centred around me losing the baby and so i feel the extra care might help me through the last few weeks?? That’s when it’s worse. Cbt doesn’t work for me. This is my last pregnancy so I just want it over with and want a little help to get me there. I’m affected physically so it can’t be good for the baby

  • Speak with you midwife, you can ask for another consultants second opinion. There should also be a patient advice liaison service or something similar, you can speak with them and they can speak on your behalf in addition to explaining the reasons why decisions have been made. If you want the extra scans due to your anxiety, I’m afraid they would not be granted.

  • Private scans are only £50ish depending on where you go. I know it’s a lot of money but to ease your mind it’s worth it. Just having a few private scans in the last trimester might help x

  • You wouldn’t be entitled to the scans because they wouldn’t see that as relivent to your mental health. But you will get extra support (more appointments with your midwife) if you asked. I had appointments every two weeks 🙂

  • Cant you ask at midwife about these an explain why you would like them. Im not sure on the growth scans as they might only be done of they have concerns. But I would ask at your next appointment an just explain how you feel an that you would feel more settled of you could have the extra care you have mentioned. Hope they help you feel less anxious xx

  • They wouldn’t give you extra scans for anxiety, everyone would be after them, unless there’s a problem with baby at your checks they could only offer you help for your mental health

  • U can go under care of pregnancy mental health team for anxiety and get more support that’s all they do for anxiety u can also get cbt quicker in pregnancy and first year of having baby if u choose to get support for it u shouldn’t need scans for anxiety alone
