Private post please,
I’m currently 30 weeks pregnant second baby, I’m employed 16 hours a week, I handed my bosses my form from the midwife at 24 weeks and they said they will pay me maternity allowance as I’m entitled to it and can go on maternity from the 1st January, my last shift was Saturday, Iv received a message tonight saying they aren’t paying me it now and they have a smp1 form there for me to collect? Where do I stand with this? They have misinformed me, plus the earlier I claim it from the government the better so now boss aren’t going to pay me but I’m already on maternity leave? Where do I stand please? X

  • Private reply on my original post please, the earliest you can put the form in to the government is 26 weeks pregnant which gives it time to process for 29 weeks pregnant which is when you can receive mat pay from, I have choose to take it as early as I could as I have a high risk problemed pregnancy and was struggling to work the required hours which was two shifts a week ten hours one and six the other without brakes (waitressing) I just don’t no where I stand as I’m on maternity leave already without pay now bosses have changed there mind? X
Also add that I haven’t received payslips from them for at least two months so how do I go about getting them so I can put my form into the government? X

  • This happened to me But I was nearly three months without my maternity cos my boss never told me I couldn’t get it from work and said was sorting it.I phoned up and did it myself but make sure you do it soon as so they can back date it for you. Just need to fill forms in and send your pay slips off so they can work out how much maternity money to pay you.

  • Maternity allowance is paid by the government. Statutory maternity (smp) pay is by your employer. Were you only recently employed? some companies require you to be there for a certain number of months before you’re entitled to smp, which is the only reason they’d get away with not paying you. If you weren’t there the minimum amount of time needed, you need to apply for maternity allowance from the government.

  • Work don’t pay maternity allowance the governemt does, work pay would be statutory maternity pay.
