Hi can I have a ppp. My oh has 4 kids to his ex and he always pays maintenance private to his ex £200 a month. Never misses etc. But he has noticed that he’s had £400 deducted from his wage this month from csa. We have just moved so had no correspondence and he doesn’t have contact with his ex. He also earns 18k a year. Can she just contact then for no reason and they just take money? And does that amount seem reasonable for 4 kids? Thanks x

  • Csa can’t just take money like that. They would contact you with how much he has to pay and give him the opportunity to pay it, if he failed to do that they would then do an attachment of earnings and it would come of his wages but you should have had letters off csa …he will also be being a fee on top of what maintainence he has to pay I think csa charge something like 40% on top

  • My ex gives me £200 a month for 1 so £400 doesn’t seem unreasonable.
But if of thought they’d of contacted you 1st. But maybe letters went to your old house if you’ve recently moved and she doesn’t know your new address?

  • Seems like she has made out you haven’t been paying her and you’ve been hit with the cms’s fictitious arrears on a detachment of earnings order…

  • Id say it’s the right amount as I receive £160 a month for 1 child. And £200 a month equates to £50 a month per child, when you consider that she has to have a house big enough to accommodate 4 children, plus will have higher gas, electric, water bills, food bills etc.
There’s a calculator you can use to get an estimated amount though x

  • £400 for 4 kids sounds right I dunno how he thought £200 a month for 4 kids was enough really but yes go on calculator online it’s about right.

  • It doesn’t go on per child it goes on percentage. 12% one child 16% 2 children and the maximum is 19% for 3 and over. Go on the web site and look at the calculations

  • My fiancé pays £400 a month for 3 children.. it’s back pay because they’ve changed over from csa to cms.
If they can’t contact you you put it up

  • Yes if he has no proof he’s paid her any money she can say he’s never paid and they can take what they deem a monthly wage and then a back payment x

  • If they have been trying to contact him over a period with no response then they can go to his employer and have it taken out of his wages x

  • They don’t just take it from your wage. Theyve got to have been trying to get in contact and get it off him other ways first before they go down the take off his pay route

  • Yeah She can just contact them. And i get £160 a month for one child. So yeah £400 for 4 seems reasonable.

  • How were you paying her the £200/month? Please don’t say cash 😢

  • Csa cant just take £400 from his wage withoit prior contact and this will be over months has he missed any letters

  • They don’t just take it. They usually contact your partner and collect and pay is usually a last resort.
