Can I have a post please?

My youngest son is 3 and has started nursery he is potty trained at home with nothing on his bottom half at all but as soon as he has pants on he just wets himself and even poos himself too.. I have to send a spare pair of pants and underpants every day with him as he will have an accident at school and doesn’t even tell the teacher. We just find out seeing his wet pants!.. he can go days being really good with going to the toilet then others he can be quite bad. I’m not sure how to go about this and to try and stop this from happening. I know accidents happen but does this happen for his age? Is it a common thing?. Any advice will be great thank you!

  • Can I reply please.. I think it is more of a thing of when he’s playing he just doesn’t realise and forgets and his wet pants don’t even seem to bother him! He has pants with his favourite characters on and before we go out he goes to the toilet and even ask while we are out and take him. My oldest was out of nappies just before he was 3 but every child is different I suppose and hopefully will get over it soon. Thanks for all your advice 😊

  • He is only 3….When home have a timer set to go off every 20 or 30 mins and he has to sit and try ….nursery should also have him trying on a reg basis…. never ask but tell them it’s time to try…otherwise they have an option of saying no …..not sure what the nurses schedule is like but do you know if they have the kids go and try every hr at least?

  • Yip monitor when he drinks wait a while then ask if he needs a pee if he says no remind him “don’t pee your pants go to the toilet ” like others have said too eventually he won’t like the wet feeling and will go when he’s at nursery there’s so much happening he maybe doesn’t realise he needs it till it’s too late he just needs reminding but try no nag it’s a hard stage but persevere x

  • He might not be ready my daughter did this then I gave her a break and put nappies on for a couple weeks then after a half term went school said im trying again as she started seeming ready and she was trained straight away but has use toilet not potty 😂 and the night time dryness just came on by herself she wet the bed twice. She’s had 2 accidents since being fully taught but both while she’s not fully been herself health wise and downed lots of drinks just before bed x

  • I have just had this with my son he was exactly the same it took me 4 days for no accidents and went through alot of clothes they start to hate feeling wet so u find it gives them a push just keep trying don’t allow him to go with no clothes on my son is mad on dinosaurs so in the end I said I’d buy him 1 and it worked just keep going loads of clothes and underpants you will get there x

  • My son is also 3 and just started at nursery. His first day he had 4 accidents. The second day he didn’t have one until his dad picked him up and took him home.

Ask nursery to take your son every 30 minutes, at home just put pants on him, he’ll soon realise soggy pants aren’t fun (took us about 10 pairs of pants) we also brought him some paw patrol pants he picked himself and explained that ‘chase didn’t like being weed on’

Just persevere, we still have the odd accident if he’s too busy or engrossed in something but he’s getting better (he still wears nappies at night/nap time) xxx

  • When u constantly change from nappies to pants they get confused if u have afew days with pant on and no nappy appart from bed and when wet u take him to sit on toilet afew afew days he may just go toilet as long as consistent I confused my 2nd as he was always back n forth in nappies

  • I’ve just potty trained my 2 year old. We are 4 days into training. I train him in pants. He was being asked every half hour if he need the potty or was put on the potty every 2 hours if he’s not been. You just have to keep going. My boy now uses the potty by himself without even me asking. When we are out and busy I will remind him every so often tho
