Can I have a private post please?
I’m looking for advice from people who have had a family member addicted to painkillers.
My dad is living with us saving for a mortgage, he started taking co-codamol around 3 months ago for a ‘bad back’ he’s still taking them now.. every day (soluble ones) .. he’s also now taking tramadol to help him ‘sleep’ non of which have been prescribed. He’s a recovering alcoholic, he’s not touched drink for 7 years after been to rehab.. but he has the addictive gene obviously & I’m concerned it’s happening again. I have a 11 month old & 2 year old & don’t want to cause a bad argument or atmosphere in their home. How can I approach this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou! X

Has he fully recovered from his back injury ?
I was prescribed co-codamol by the gp for my chronic leg pain for a year . They stopped working and they now have me on tramadol 4 times a day .
Perhaps you could suggest if he is still in pain that you’ll happily attend a doctor’s appointment with him ….to make sure he hasn’t done too much damage to his back ?
That way your showing concern without confronting?
I can see where your worry comes from with him being a recovering alcoholic. …. my mum was one but unfortunately it got the better of her 2 months ago and she lost her battle with it xxx
Feel free to pm me xx
