Good afternoon. Could I have a private post please? It a sensitive subject. I named my child after a family member I used to look up to and believed was a role model to me. This relative has since pleaded guilty to a crime of a very serious nature and is due to be sentenced. It will be a custodial sentence. This has been a devastating shock to me and Iam not coping at all. Firstly the fact this relative who Ive always looked up to is not the person I thought behind closed doors and also because of the verbal abuse and physical threats the outside family are receiving which is unjust and cruel. This came as an immense shock to everyone who knew this person. Iam concerned for my child. Iam petrified of these people telling their children not to play with my child and being singled out and bullied. Especially because of the name. What can I do to protect my child? To prevent anyone else making the link between my child and this person – Can i change a forename? Or use a middle name as a preferred name? How would I explain such a sudden change to my child who is old enough to question why but far too young to know? My head feels like it is going to explode out of hurt, anger, humiliation.. I wish i could go back in time knowing what I know now so my child would never have this link and I could forget about this person always. Please, no cruel comments. I have already been made to suffer enough. Thankyou x
