I’m just looking for some advice, My ex hasn’t been in my life or my sons for nearly 5 years now (he decided not to see my son after we broke up) anyway, I have never asked for any money off him and have never received a penny toward my little boy for the 5 years, it’s come about that I am currently struggling with money and affording summer clothes etc for my son. So I have been thinking about claiming child maintenance, but I am scared to death it will open a can of worms and my ex will try get contact with my son and me again 😞 also do you know if they back pay from the day he last saw my son or from when the claim was made ? Thank you ! X

It goes from the day the claim was made hun, you have to pay £20 to set it up also if he by any chance etrys to deny he’s his they will force a DNA test which he will also have to pay for, if he refuses that the cm will be issued anyway xx
From when the claim was made & contact arrangements and contact are separate. If he decides that he wants to see your son and have stopped contact (with good reason from the sound of it) then he will have to see a solicitor x
