Hello can I have a PP please. I am having a kitchen extension done on my tiny Victorian terrace kitchen and I think I have hired a rogue builder 😭 it all started fine, a contract was signed and he ripped out my kitchen the following week to make room to work and for the dividing wall to come down etc. Originally we signed the contract to have a double skin wall with a conservatory roof built on top next to the kitchen with the dividing wall knocked through to create a kitchen diner but building control wouldn’t allow the roof so the builder said he would build a roof that would comply for extra £ so we paid what he asked so he could order everything (via bank transfer) and asked for an invoice (which we never got) then building control wanted more foundations etc so we paid for it and managed to get an invoice for cash paid but still nothing for the bank transfers! 2 months have passed now and all we have is the foundations in the ground and a builder who’s taking on other jobs, telling us he’s losing money as our build is over running yet not turning up for a week trying to get on with it! He has taken £5k total so far and I’m devastated as I have a 3 year old and just wanted to make our home better for him and now I have a mess of a garden and some concrete in ground and if he doesn’t finish the job I have no way to find the money to hire a new builder as we borrowed this money in the first place 😞 can anyone please advise what I should do. I have been asking for invoices all week and asked for a revised contract to include the foundations and roof and he just says he’s too busy and will do it another day then doesn’t. Sorry it’s a long post I’m just really worried and trying to explain everything properly. Thank you to anyone who can offer some help

  • It’s sounds like you have 💔 get intouch with trading standards, maybe ask a qualified builder to come out and have a look and see what he says, about it all etc and tell your current “builder” you’ve contacted trading standards, they’d probably be best for advice on getting money back too etc, you have bank statements showing transactions etc and the original contract so you might be covered xx
