Hello please Can I ask for some advice?
I am a single mother, separated for 3 years now with a 9 year old, school year 5.
My ex is insistent on my daughter going to an all girls school in a different county nearer to his house.
Both houses are classed as our of area for the School of his choice, whereas there is a perfectly good School on my doorstep.
I was told by School that the place goes off the address where the child benefit is paid, does anyone know if this is correct and as I am the main career and parent do I get the overall choice on the School choices?
I am trying to think practically, School on our doorstep that can be walked too, or driven to in 2 minutes if bad weather. We have family that already attend this school and currently the School times have been extended for prep time to allow most homework to be done at school with the help of other students and teachers who are on hand.
The school choice of my ex is 45 minutes away on a bus. I pass the bus stop on my way to work, but the bus home is before I finish work and means a 30 minute walk then home, which in summer is ok but not acceptable on dark nights. With the long journey to and from School, this adds a long time onto the school day and I can only imagine homework will then become an issue when tiredness kicks in. Not to mention the social aspect of attending a school so far away, how can my child spend time with friends after school with a 45 minute trek on a bus, a 30 minute walk, tea to eat, homework to do??
Any advice would be welcomed 👍
Thank you x
