Hey can u do a private post please?

What are the rules around having no heating or hot water in a council rented house with a 3 year old?? It’s not been working for 2 weeks and they are only willing to send someone out during the day when I work and would lose a days pay? Any advice? X

  • If you have a 3 year old & no hot water or heating I don’t understand why you’re delaying having it fixed? Yes you’ll lose a days pay but maybe you could pick an extra shift up? Even if you can’t I’d rather my child was warm & able to have a hot bath & take a hit in the wallet 😊

  • erm loose a 9.5 hour day pay over a half hour call out? no don’t think so!!!!
yeah it needs fixed but that’s why council firms have a 24 hour line!!!!!
i’ve had a heater go out before and i phoned out of hours line and they sent someone at 9 at night, so no hot water and heater is classed as an emergency with a small child in the house too!

  • Council only work 9-5 usually so unfortunately you need to take the day off. It’s one of those things, whether council, private let or owned you would need to take the day off for a tradesperson anyway. Or get someone else to sit in for you

  • It used to be up to five years of age classed as emergency it’s gone down to 3 years and u should just take a day off heating is more important in this weather now your child’s free your have to wait till they are available to do it x

  • Could somebody not be there instead, it clearly needs sorting now more than ever! Should imagine They only come out after hours if it’s called after hours as an emergency

  • They can only leave u 24 hrs without heating and should offer electric heaters if can’t fix it and they can send someone out at night an emergency enigeer

  • Can you not Explain it to to Council that you can afford to lose a days pay ?? Or your other choice would be to get someone to wait in your house in the day they are coming out to fix it
